April is always a fun month in the Eagles. The weather is starting to get warmer, which means we can be outside more! We spent time exploring our playground, looking for signs of the flowers starting to peek out and digging to look for bugs and worms. Hands on science exploration at its best!
At the start of this month we spent more time talking about the weather. We explored wind, clouds, rain, and sun. One sunny day, we went outside and lay down to watch the clouds. Then we drew what we saw! We have very vivid imaginations! We also used some outside time to make our own rainy art. We used watered down paints to splatter our giant paper! As the paint dripped down, it began to mix together and create new colors. It also looked like rain running down a window!
This month also brought us to our next holiday, Easter! We took a trip to Johnson’s Farm for an egg hunt and to see the Easter Bunny! We had an awesome time! At school, we used plastic eggs to play matching games and continue working on our letter and number recognition. We also used our plastic eggs to practice our fine motor skills by stacking as many halves as possible!
The Eagles also finished off the alphabet this month! That means we began looking deeper into the vowels and the sounds they create. We used a lot of fun rhyming books to help create word families to hang in our class. Our first was the word family ‘–at’, such as cat, mat, rat, hat, etc. We even helped to read the words in one of our big books!
Every day we find new and fun ways to work on all the skills we need for Kindergarten next year. We are practicing measuring with measuring tapes, counting our napkins for snack, and sorting our toys in new ways! We are also becoming very excited about the computers and the skills we can practice using our games! The games are fun, but we are learning at the same time!
