December is always a very busy and exciting time in the Eagles room. We loved learning about all the holidays that occur this month!
We began the month by learning the traditions and seven principles of Kwanzaa about Kwanzaa. Then we moved into Hanukkah. The Eagles learned the story behind the menorah and why Jewish people celebrate for 8 nights. We even created our own menorahs to hang in the classroom. Last, but not least, the Eagles learned about Christmas. We loved hearing the traditional songs and stories of this special time of year. We have been busy!
The Owls and Eagles also had their annual Holiday Show this month! We all loved getting up on stage and singing songs to our families and friends! This year we sang “Marshmallow World”, “Dreidel”, and “Holly Jolly Christmas”. We did a great job and had an awesome time!
One of our favorite activities this month was our gingerbread house decorating! We each created our own masterpiece using various candies and frosting. The best part was that we got to eat our creations for snack! Yum!
Throughout this month we have focused on the letters K-M. We are beginning to show more interest in the writing process and have asked how to spell some words, such as ‘to’ and ‘from’. All their hard work is paying off! We’ve been practicing our counting skills using numerous holiday items, like bows, Santa erasers, and dreidels. The Eagles are also actively engaged in games, like ZINGO, BINGO, letter and color hunts, even a candy cane hunting game!
The Eagles have had ample opportunities to use their fine motor skills this month. We are creating a super secret gift for our families! We have drawn, cut, glued, painted, and written to make our creations. It has been a lot of work, but in the end it is worth it!
