October in the Eagles room is a spooky good time! We are learning so many new things every day!
We began this month talking about Autumn and the changing season. We began a scientific month- long exploration of the leaves on our playground. Each day we checked our chosen trees to see how the leaves had changed and examining them. As the month progresses, we hope to see all the leaves change color and know the reason WHY !
Next was Fire Safety week. We had a visit from the Mt. Laurel fire department. We learned so much about how the firefighters keep themselves safe with each part of their uniform. We even went outside to see the fire truck! It was so big, the tires were taller than some of our friends! We learned a lot about being safe and how the firefighters help protect us and our communities.
Our next theme was Pumpkins! The Eagles and Owls went on their first field trip to Springdale Farms. We had a hayride tour of the fields to see what foods they grow, picked our own pumpkins, and had a yummy treat of cider donuts and apple cider for snack. Back at school we learned about the life cycle of a pumpkin, from little seed all the way to big orange pumpkin, lumpy bumpy pumpkin, or even a white pumpkin!
We have one more fun theme to go this month and that is Halloween! We are getting so excited to show off our costumes in the parade and while Trunk-or-Treating. The Eagles can’t wait for all the fun to begin!
We have focused on the letters C-G this month. We’ve learned silly songs, read stories focusing on the letters, made beginning word lists, and creating fun letter artwork for each letter! We will also make it to the 43rd day of school! Our counting skills are really coming along! We are learning and having a lot of fun as well! All of our activities are connected with pre-reading skills, math and science. Our monthly themes typically tie into social studies and we love learning through play !
Throughout November we will be learning about Farms and the Harvest, as well as Aviation and Transportation. It’s going to be a high flying good time!
