The Laurel Tree Academy carefully selects all teachers and staff on the basis of educational background, experience, attitude, character and most importantly, the love of children. Our Head Teacher and Preschool teachers have a degree in Early Childhood education or a related field while other teachers have a combination of formal education and experience. By using selective hiring practices, we ensure our staff stays with us long term, which leads to a consistent and secure relationship for you and your child.
All teachers and staff are state certified and are required to complete ongoing professional development each year in the following areas: Child Growth & Development, Positive Guidance & Discipline, and Child Health & Safety, including CPR Certification. In addition to the state requirements, The Laurel Tree Academy teachers and staff engage in many hours of research and self study to ensure their lesson plans are creative, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and FUN.
I have been with The Laurel Tree Academy since February 2001 and was named Director in 2003. After 20 years in the commercial lending industry, I wouldn’t have imagined myself in the childcare field but a professional relationship with owner, Bill Cossaboon, led to a new and exciting opportunity and a career at Laurel Tree. I love that my role allows me to be creative and messy and that every day is different. My passion is to provide fun, new learning opportunities in the most enriching, nurturing environment possible.
I believe that children should be challenged as well as loved and nurtured; that their days should be filled with fun and wonder. To this end, I continually seek to develop new initiatives at Laurel Tree, such as, a quality play-based curriculum, an active, traveling, summer camp program and a natural playground that is truly a dream come true.
My family is also committed to the success and future of Laurel Tree. My son, now serving as a US Naval Officer in Norfolk, Va. worked many summers as a camp counselor. My daughter, who attended from toddler to preschool, now works as an afternoon assistant. My husband, daughter and I, live in Marlton, with our very large yellow Lab, Beau. We spend many weekends landscaping the center grounds and looking for ways to add something special (like the new mud kitchen) to our center.
Please give me a call so you can meet the amazing staff here and see all the wonderful activities they have planned for your children. I would love to meet you and show you around!
I have enjoyed working with children for the past 15 years. Three years ago, as the Director of a children’s gym and a new mom, I was looking for not only a chance to grow in my career but also an environment where my daughter would be loved and nurtured. I was blessed with the opportunity to teach at The Laurel Tree Academy. I immediately knew Laurel Tree was the perfect place for me to combine my love of children, fun & fitness. I am excited with my role as Assistant Director, where I am able to be directly involved in curriculum planning and school initiatives as well as oversight of the center’s physical education programming.
I am thankful everyday that I am able to work in an environment where children can learn and experience new challenges that will help them build their confidence. I am proud to be part of a center where children are respected and loved for the unique and wonderful individuals they are.
When I am not at the center, I enjoy spending time with my husband and beautiful and spunky little girl, who also attends Laurel Tree. Many of our weekends are spent hanging out at “the bay” with family and friends.
Please stop by for a visit, I would love to meet you and your family.
